Family Structure
Most families in Nicaragua are extended, meaning more family members live in a house together. The ideal members are the parents, kids, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and godparents in one household. This usually adds up to around 8 people together in one house. This is seen as a blessing to Nicaraguans in rural areas, and seen as a creative way of living together all in one household in urban areas. There are few families who live in a nuclear style home.
Most Nicaraguans believe in the concept of kinship, where everyone is related to someone else. They have kin groups and are loyal to their kin to keep a strong relationship. Extended families always stick together. Nicas see godparents as an exception and believe they are "still related" in a different way.

Social Classes
There are definitely social classes in Nicaragua, that happen to be very diverse. The highest class in Nicaragua consists of the priests and nobles, who basically rule everyone. The lowest class includes the people who are poor, in poverty, and unemployed. Sadly, most Nicaraguans are placed in this lower class. Over 40% of Nicaragua's population is below the poverty line.
In Nicaragua, you're social status is typically based off of how much land you have or the state, or condition, that your land is in. Land equals wealth, so pretty much economics are what decides your social class. Also, the telephone is owned by wealthy people, so if you have a telephone, then you are in the higher class.
