Type Of Government and description
Nicaragua has a Republic form of government. This is where citizens elect representatives to make government decisions for them. Their government system is modeled like the United States government. There are three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial, executive branch containing president and vice, along with cabinet. The legislative branch has 92 National Assembly members who enact laws, and the judicial branch contains a supreme court and local courts.
Major Issues Within Government
There has been a lot of war and fighting since General Anastasio Somoza García's dictatorship in the late 1930's. There are a lot of economic issues that have made Nicaragua one of the poorest countries in the world. There are few drug problems currently in Nicaragua. Some groups also try to rebel against the Nicaraguan government, which causes problems as well.
Major Laws
Major laws in Nicaragua are to not murder or assault other living things. Also, there are laws regarding firearms, and drug use/ownership. Any immigrants coming into Nicaragua to live there, must have a residency permit.
